Following its tradition of naming new versions of Android after sweet snacks, Google announced Tuesday that the next version of the operating system will be called Kit Kat.
News of the name came as Google Vice President Sundar Pichai announced that the operating system now operates more than 1 billion devices worldwide.
Google is planning to expand that even further, saying in a blog posting that ”it’s our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody.”
While the company gave no further details, it appeared to corroborate rumours that Google plans to use its next Android release in smartwatches, gaming consoles, low-cost smartphones, and even laptops.(dpa)
