Samsung Galaxy S5

by Jonathan Kevin Castillo

As a spectator of technology, it’s always exciting to see top manufacturers duke it out with their latest champion. Recently, each of these manufacturers unveiled their top contenders and ready for action. These devices are the LG G Pro 2, Sony Xperia Z2, and the Samsung Galaxy S5. And of course, the competition is decided by the consumers. So we’ve gathered some information regarding these new flagships to help you out make a decision when you’re off to nab the latest device. Take note, they all have 1080p displays.

Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung’s latest flagship the Galaxy S5 made headlines its new features. It sports the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat, 2.5GHz CPU, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, and 2GB RAM. Its 5.1-inch screen features a 1980×1080 Super AMOLED coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 16- and 32GB internal memory configurations that is expandable up to 128GB, LTE and NFC enabled, and will support wireless charging.

It has three new features. The first is being waterproof with an IP67. The second is the fingerprint scanner in its home button, which is PayPal certified. And third, the heart rate sensor under the rear camera.

It has an all metal chassis, which makes the device feel solid all around. The back cover no longer looks plastic as seen in the S4 and abandons the Note 3’s leather-stitched back. It looks like rubber with dimples to make a better grip. Though the back is still made out of plastic, we welcome its new approach.

Sony Xperia Z2
Sony appears they’re going to be releasing two flagships a year. After only a couple of months Sony has unveiled their newest flagship, the Xperia Z2. It is a powerhouse that runs with Android 4.4 Kitkat, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.3 GHz quad-core Krait CPUs and LTE. One of its biggest highlight is having a bright screen with the Triluminos technology as seen in Sony’s Bravia TVs. As a standard in recent Xperia devices, its waterproof with an IP58 rating, which does its job in making the Xperia a swimming buddy.

It features an excellent camera with an Exmor RS technology from Sony’s line of Cyber-shot cameras. And sure enough the images taken were bright and vibrant.

Xperia Z2 also includes a large 3200 mAh battery, which is more than enough for the entire day even on high use. The design doesn’t stray too far from the recent flagship, the Xperia Z1. In fact, they almost look identical. But that isn’t to say the Z2 isn’t gorgeous. Because we really dig at how refreshing it looks from other Android devices. What we can say for the Z2 for now, is that it’s a souped up version of the Z1, and we’re still impressed with its punch.

LG G Pro 2
The last but certainly not the least flagship device, the LG G Pro 2 ships with Android 4.4 Kitkat, with a 5.9-inch full HD display, making it a top contender in the phablet market. It features a 2.26GHz quad-core processor with 3GB RAM, and has 16/32GB internal storage.

It may not be waterproof like the Galaxy S5 and the Xperia Z2, but what it has is the Mini View, which shrinks the entire interface for smoother one hand operations. It also has the rear button as seen from the LG G2, which we really love. The Knockon feature has been improved too, by adding a Knock code, where you’re have to knock between two to eight times before the screen unlocks. It’s an interesting security feature we’re eager to experiment soon with our full review.

There you have it. These three are winners on our book, as each of them have their own strengths that are suited for our needs. These three superphones are the start of this years ever heated competition, and we’re all ready excited for the next lineup. But for now, expect full reviews from us for each of these three soon.
